Flightcom’s customers inspire us to create the technology and solutions that help pilots, passengers and teams worldwide hear and be heard in the air and on the ground. Since we began serving the general aviation market from our headquarters in Portland, Oregon, USA, Flightcom’s original products have grown into an array of innovative headsets and communication systems providing both hearing protection and robust communication in the most challenging environments.

OUR TECHNOLOGY

Flightcom’s newest generation of products leverage our exclusive DECT7® wireless communication technology to increase communication efficiency and overall productivity, and to prevent accidents and injuries on airport ramps and anywhere aircraft or ground staff are located.

Flightcom communication systems are deployed within general aviation, the military and with a growing list of major commercial airlines, including Alaska and United.

OUR STORY

When Flightcom founder Brian VanderPloeg had trouble hearing his flight instructor while training for a private pilot’s license, he put his engineering background and problem-solving skills to work. As an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Brian soon discovered that there was a robust market for his advanced aviation intercom systems.

Brian and his wife and business partner, Jane, focused Flightcom on producing an expanding line of innovative, technologically advanced, low-cost communication products and accessories that became the solution of choice for hundreds of thousands of private pilots and their passengers. Flightcom grew by 1,325 percent in a five-year period in the early 1990s, and today serves not only private pilots, but commercial and military aviation as well.

Over the next 20 years, Flightcom’s parent company Sonetics Corporation, created new brands to support teams in numerous environments, including, firefighting, emergency response, construction, public works, manufacturing, marine, and industrial operations. That commitment to our customers and continuing mission to provide the best communication solutions to ensure the productivity, safety, and effectiveness of work teams in challenging environments continues today in our Flightcom, Firecom and Sonetics brands.

What started in the VanderPloegs’ Portland, Oregon garage has expanded to a fast growing company with employees supporting customers across North America and around the world. Their strong entrepreneurial spirit continues to drive the company’s growth today.
